CEPO Statement on Flight Accidents in South Sudan

Samir Bol | Juba 30.01.2025
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has expressed deep concern regarding the recent series of flight accidents in South Sudan, highlighting the country’s vulnerability to aviation tragedies. "South Sudan seems to be a dumping ground for all flights, which tragically claim the lives of our own citizens," said CEPO. The organization emphasized that the continuing loss of life due to plane crashes is a stark reminder of the lack of proper aviation infrastructure, maintenance standards, and safety protocols in the country.

CEPO called for immediate government intervention to improve the safety standards of air travel in South Sudan. This includes strengthening regulatory frameworks, enforcing safety measures for both passengers and crew, and ensuring that all aircraft operating within the country are properly maintained. The organization also urged better training for aviation personnel and for the government to invest in building a robust aviation sector that prioritizes the safety of its people.

Additionally, CEPO extended its condolences to the families of those affected by these tragedies and called for accountability to prevent future occurrences. The organization’s statement underscored the urgent need for systemic reforms to protect the citizens of South Sudan from such avoidable disasters.

Spoliors of Tumain peace talks are the real profiteers of the ongoing political instability and economic crisis in the country

Spoliors of Tumain peace talks are the real profiteers of the ongoing political instability and economic crisis in the country. They are speaking as if they owned the country and the citizens. They viewed citizens as their objects, not as stakeholders, that they deserve  not to hold them accountable.
Mr Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, says sincerely the spoliors of Tumain deserve sanctions such as of USA government on visa restriction and other harder direct  sanctions for them at  personal level. The politics of undermining the Tumaian peace talks is direct underminding of the political good will of the president for embracing inclusive governance and government for genuine political transitional process in South Sudan.
Over 90% of the Tumain peace talks spoliors are having their families outside South Sudan and some have looted our national al wealth encough to the level of using the benefits from our looted national wealth for impossing on us consistant and persistent suffering. Your Excellenc President, we want to heat your statement to tye nation on the fate of Tumain peace talks. The spirit for spoiling Tumaini now will be used for drgging feet for genuine implementation of the pending tasks of the R-ARCSS, like what we have seen in the last past six years on the fate R-ARCSS.Your Execellency president you have compromised too.much on the spoilers of genuine political transitional since 2018 until today on the expenses of the massive citizens suffering in the face of floods, political instability and hard economic pressuring situation and other more negative implications on the lives of the citizens. President acted now on the spoliers of the genuien political transitional process before the citizens said enough is enough, and we are tired with the  at of spoilers of genuine political transitional in South Sudan. Mr Yakani stressed
Finally, CEPO will be effectively engaged in the regional lobby for the success of Tumaini Peace Talks for inclusive government 6 genuine political transitional of our country situation from violence to peace. Tumaini Peace Talks is not intended to undrmine R-ARCSS or replace the R-TGoNU. Yes, the inclusion of Tumaini Peace talk politicians in the R-TGoNU should not be used as a justification for undermining or soplioring the good will of the president. No leader is permanent in the government. Leaders come leaders go. Spoilers of Tumaini Peace Talks are the just real profiteers of our citizens suffering today since 2018

CEPO repeated a call for the leadership of the country to declare floods as humanitarian disasters

CEPO repeated a call for the leadership of the country to declare floods as humanitarian disasters. The negative implications of the flood on our communities are getting dangerous daily.  The leadership of the country should urgently take action on declaring floods as humanitarian disasters.
Mr Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, says the leadership of the country should really act on the call for declaring floods as a national humanitarian disaster. We are losing human lives, livestock, and agricultural farms. The flood negative implications were extreme on the population of persons with disabilities across the country Persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups are facing severe implications of the floods across the country with less assistance. It is essential for the flood responding actors to have effective approaches for inclusive floods response
Raising in food insecurity, gender base violence, communal armed violence associated with communities competition over lands, snake bites, and other  vulnerability aspects is very high in the communities affected by the floods. Mr Yakani stressed
Finally, CEPO is urging the leadership of the country to rescue the communities facing the hardership imposed on them by the floods

It is a clear demonstration of people-to-people partnership that focuses on human growth and social development . The distance of China and african is long, but humanity connects
